Unearthing Their Stories: Honoring the 44 Forgotten Soldiers of the Revolution

Date: July 27, 2026
Time: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
Location: Harry Dutcher Community Room

On May 20, a solemn procession carried the remains of 44 Revolutionary War Continental Soldiers down Broadway as they began their final journey toward re-interment at Lake George Battlefield Park, part of the “Repose of the Fallen” memorial project. Local residents and volunteers Kerry Nelson and Larry Handy—whose efforts helped uncover these soldiers during the remarkable 2019 excavation overlooking Lake George—will share their firsthand experiences and insights. Discover what this extraordinary rediscovery reveals about the Patriots who fought to build a new nation. This program is inspired by our 2026 summer reading program, Unearth a Story and the 250th Birthday of the United States of America.
