Looking Out: Perspectives on 25 Years of the Adirondack Mountain Club Fire Tower Challenge

Date: May 20, 2026
Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Location: Harry Dutcher Community Room

The fire towers of the Adirondacks and Catskills have evolved from essential fire-detection outposts to beloved symbols of conservation, history, and outdoor adventure. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the ADK Fire Tower Challenge, and to celebrate, the Glens Falls–Saratoga Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club and the Saratoga Springs Public Library are partnering to host a special panel discussion.

Join us as we explore:

The History – A look back at 25 years of the Challenge and how it has grown.

The Trails – Insider tips, favorite routes, and what to know before you head out to the fire tower peaks.

The Experience – Stories, insights, and memorable moments from local hikers, volunteers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Stewardship – The Challenge is about more than earning a patch. Learn how it fosters a deeper respect for our public lands and encourages responsible recreation.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker, working toward your first tower, or simply curious about these historic landmarks, we hope you’ll join us for an engaging and inspiring evening.

No registration required.
