Employment Opportunity: Library Shelver — (Part Time)

Description

This position is responsible for shelving materials used in and returned to the library, and for maintaining the order and neatness of library collections.

Typical work activities

• Return library materials to shelves

• Empty book return

• Revise and straighten shelves, including dusting

• Read shelves for correct Dewey and alphabetical order

• Shift and/or weed collections as directed

• Clear tables and keep library rooms in order

• Related work as required

• Repetitive movement and physical activities, including lifting, bending, arranging books, and standing for prolonged periods

• Using hands to handle, control, or feel objects

• Face-to-face interactions with library colleagues and patrons

• Being exact or highly accurate

• Working with external customers or the public

• Working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions

• Performing job tasks in close physical proximity to others

Education and experience

No minimum requirements

Skills required

• Ability to understand and carry out oral written directions

• Ability to learn library classifications system in use

• Ability to read English

• Ability to work efficiently alone with and minimal direct supervision

• Ability to work cooperatively with others

• Ability to stand and lift, and to arrange books on library shelves
