English Language Learning and Adult Basic Literacy

Saratoga Springs Public Library Literacy Services offers adults help with learning English as a new language, as well as Adult Basic Literacy: reading and writing skills for fluent English speakers. We offer one-to-one tutoring as well as English Language Classes.

Happy group of students and mentors.
Students and Tutors of the ELL Program

SSPL English Language Learning classes are free. Three different class levels focus on developing English language vocabulary, fluency, and reading skills in a group setting. Trained volunteer teachers seek to help students feel comfortable and confident in using English in their daily lives.

All incoming students are asked to

  1. Schedule an English Language level assessment before the first class
  2. Register online for a class at the appropriate level

English Language classes are located in the Glasby Room on the ground floor of the library. Please check the SSPL Events Calendar for class cancellations.

The nearby Literacy Room is for tutoring. The Literacy Room also has a collection of materials available for patrons to check out. These include adult easy-to-read books, English Language materials, citizenship information and more.
