Library hours will expand to 9am-6pm Monday through Friday, and 9am-5pm on Saturday, beginning April 5, 2021. The annual library budget vote and trustee election has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 17, 2021.

We continue to carefully monitor Covid-19 metrics, and, as conditions allow, will continue to restore hours and services.

Beginning Monday, April 5, the library’s temporary opening hours will expand to

  • 9AM-6PM Monday through Friday, and
  • 9AM-5PM on Saturday.

At the same time the Friends Book Shop will expand its shopping hours to 11AM-5PM Monday-Thursday and 10:30AM-4PM Friday and Saturday, with donations accepted by appointment only.

The Saratoga County 14-day-average Covid test positivity rate peaked at 10.6% on January 9, and declined steadily to a low of 2.2% on March 13. During that period, we have been able to reach Phase 4 of our multi-phase reopening plan, and:

  • reopen all three floors of the library building to browsing,
  • eliminate the need for reservations to pick up items on hold,
  • reinstate computer use and Saratoga Room research by appointment,
  • reopen restrooms, and
  • shorten the quarantine time for returned materials.

We remain in Phase 4 of our reopening, with access to the building as outlined above. For the time being, programs continue to be virtual, general indoor seating continues to be unavailable, and meeting rooms, the Teen Room, and the Treehouse Room remain closed.

Since March 13, the 14-day-average test positivity rate in Saratoga County has once again been on the rise, and, for the past several days, has plateaued at 2.9%. With spring break just around the corner, we are remaining vigilant, with a close eye on the possibility of a post-travel spike in infections similar that experienced after the winter holidays. While it is our fervent hope to continue to restore services, we will follow the guidelines regarding outlined in our Pandemic Operations Plan.

We are hopeful that infection rates will continue to decrease and vaccination rates will continue to increase, and are busily planning for the 2021 Summer Reading season. While we anticipate that most Summer Reading programs will continue to be virtual, we are also planning for some outdoor events with carefully metered attendance in order to provide for physical distancing. Much more information about Summer Reading will be available as we get closer to July.

In addition to the current expansion of hours, we anticipate reinstating Sunday hours, potentially in May, if infection rates remain steady or decrease. Similarly, when the 14-day-average test positivity rate is below 2% for 10 consecutive days, we will reintroduce limited seating inside the library building.

In addition to these changes, the 2021 Budget Vote and Trustee Election, originally scheduled for April, has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 17, 2021. Much more information about the election will follow later in April.
