Computer Areas and Usage


Display of sexually graphic images is not permitted in the library.

Public Internet Access Computers
Location: Second Floor
Hours: Whenever the library is open.
Requirements: A valid SALS/MVLS issued Library Card; visitors may acquire a non-resident card with proper ID.
Patrons 10 years or older may use the library unattended.
Equipment: IBM compatible computers controlled by a reservation and printing control system. Black and white printing is 10 cents per sheet. Color laser printing is $0.50 per sheet.
Description: Microsoft Office Suite and other popular software such as iTunes and Photoshop Elements.
Wireless Internet Access
Location: In any public area of the building except the Quiet Room on the second floor, as long as you are not disturbing any other library users.
Hours: Whenever the library is open.
Requirements: Your own portable computer with a wireless interface (802.11b or 802.11g). Library staff cannot provide direct assistance in configuring laptops.
Equipment: We do not yet have any printing capability from the wireless network. You may use a public computer to do any printing.
Description: Turn on your laptop with the wireless card in place. It should locate and display nearby wireless networks. Choose "Saratoga Library".
Using virus protection, a personal firewall, and other measures to protect the information on your laptop is highly recommended, and is the sole responsibility of laptop users. Above all, do not leave your laptop unattended!

Reference Area Research Machines
Location: Second Floor
Hours: Whenever the Library is open.
Requirements: None. Patrons may be asked to limit their sessions if all computers are in use and people are waiting.
Equipment: Computers are for research on the library's subscription databases and for use of the library's online catalog. Printing is available for 10 cents per page.
Description: Computer access to Web based magazine databases (ProQuest, EBSCO, and the NOVEL databases) and other products, and the World Wide Web. The machines are intended for accessing information. Chat and games are not available.
Computer Education Center
Location: Second Floor
Hours: Whenever used for Computer Instruction. Class timings vary.
Requirements: Prior registration for a class is necessary.

For Registration Date and Class timings, please check our Calendar of Events. Classes are offered year-round. Registration for classes will be conducted four times a year on a seasonal basis.
Children's Room
Location: Ground Floor
Hours: Whenever the Library is open
Requirements: Age 12 or under
Same day sign-up
Equipment: IBM compatible computers
Description: Computers have Internet access (parental guidance is suggested), educational software, and Word processing capability.
